A name suppression order has been flouted on social media with a prominent journalist directly engaging the alleged defendant in the high profile TVNZ v Unnamed.

On Thursday 21 April, 'Jax' Strongarm directly engaged the name suppressed defendant asking "where did you find that lawyer?". The unnamed defendant quickly replied asking for the journalist to "please delete this".

The defendant's name suppression was re-clarified yesterday during court, after an application from the plaintiff to see it be lifted. This was on the basis that his identity was well known due to his prolific use of social media.

The conversation took place on a social media platform.
Justice Ranzerson declined the application, citing that "it was easier to leave things as they are".

The exchange has not yet been removed. When contacted for comment, counsel for the defendant Miss Rizmackon confirmed she would be bringing the issue to the attention of the court.

Mr Backensdael could not be reached for comment.
